The transformation of the urban structure has been the leading motivation for the design of the new Place de la République. The conversion of a space dedicated to traffic into a large-scale pedestrian space has been very well received by Parisians. With the intention of highlighting the civilian use of this square in the heart of Paris it has been conceived with a clear structure and minimal design. The rigorous grading allows to produce a uniform and clearly structured plateau. The historic tree planting has been restored to emphasize its value.
